Newry Digital have held several mapathons with the aim of more accurately mapping the Newry area in the open mapping platform OpenStreetMap.
Our first mapathon event was supported by Newry BID and The Hub.
At our first event Conor Graham from Queen’s University provided an overview of the benefits of open maps with tutorials on how to get started mapping in Newry.
We were lucky to have folks from the Open Street Map Ireland group join us to lend a huge hand in getting Newry businesses, buildings and utilities on the map.
We would also acknowledge the benefits provided by Newry, Mourne, Down Council in licensing recent drone survey footage under open government licenses which aided in the digitisation of the inner city streets.
